Spring Semester 2014,

Monday, 3rd of March, the spring semester has finally started. Something I have been waiting for since last semester ended. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of studying, but I must admit that I have become a more active and hardworking student. Reading and writing are not my strongest qualities, but when it comes to creativity, leadership and contribute in class, I'm on fire!

Finland has the worlds best education system, which koreans seems to know about. Education is very valued and respected here. To go from bachelor all the way to a doctor degree, is for a korean very important. I have a feeling that going further to a master and doctor degree, is not really that common in Finland.

Thanks to last semester, this time I have more experience. I have more knowledge about the professors, what they expect etc. Last semester I chose five courses, since that was the recommended amount. There was difficulties, struggles with team projects, but in general, it was way too easy to receive an A. I wanted to challenge myself this time, and decided to choose six courses, and those I chose are:

Organizational Behavior
Hotel Project, Planning and Management
Introduction to Leisure
Production and Operation Management
International Tourism
Tourism Resources

As you can see, four tourism courses and two in the business department. The thing that's new with this semester, is the fact that I will get the great experience of getting lectures by two korean professors. Something I'm looking forward to. A thing I realized, is that the number of exchange and international students have decreased drastically. In some classes, we are only two non-korean students, which I feel is very strange, compared with the previous semester.
Something I have realized, is that the professors tend to appreciate the international students a lot, since they know our country of origin and how our education system is like back home. This means, that the "competition" between the international students won't be that tough.

Since the spring semester got a kickstart, the IFCC Booth opened. The IFCC Club has set up a table outside one of the universities main buildings to promote the events, recruit new IFCC Staff and just have a good time. As a staff, it's my obligation to hang around there as much as possible, which I think is great. You are probably thinking, why am I helping the koreans figure out events for exchange students, when I'm also an exchange student. Well, I feel like they have all become my friends, some of them will be in my life and heart forever. Last year, I participated in all events, I know the system, I know the city, how to get around, how the english courses are in the university. With all of this and more, I feel like I have an advantage and I'm a good source of information and I have information to offer to newbies that the koreans might not know about. I have experienced difficulties that the koreans haven't, which makes me a good IFCC Staff.
