DMZ Tour

The world has been worried about what is going on between North and South Korea. The North has in some ways ruined the Souths good image it has all over the world, when a young solider somehow wanted to escape from North Korea and managed to do damage in South Korea and got killed himself. He was only 18 years old and caused many problems for South Korea. The world were speaking about South Korea in a negative way, how dangerous the country is and so on. South Korea is actually trying to make peace with the North and trying to have some sort of corporation with their neighbors in the north.

This is just a little summary what I remembered of the tour guides speech at 6-9am. The inventory of todays trip was to visit the DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone), The Imjingak village, The Freedom Bridge, Dora Observatory, The Dorasan Station and one of the four tunnels connected to North Korea. Because of the foggy weather, we couldn't really take advantage of the observatory. The tunnel made it possible for us to go 73m underground and 170m from North Korea. That's pretty damn close! The Dorasaon station is the last station in the north part of South Korea. There is a railway built from South to North Korea, but not ready to use because of their relationship they have today. South Korea are wishing that this station will continue all the way to Gaeseong, one of the bigger cities in North Korea. If this plan would succeed, South Koreans could easily travel through North Korea to reach Russia and even Europe.

What the guide also mentioned was even though the military service is mandatory, the soldiers has to be 175cm or taller, the solider has to know some sort or martial arts (taekwondo, karate etc) and the solider has to be handsome!

This trip started early, and ended early too. Probably a tour that I wouldn't go to again, but now I can at least say that I have seen North Korea and almost been there! I also learnt something new about koreas history and their relationship to North Korea.
